Tyrese Ordered To Pay Over $600,000 In Child Support, Legal Fees
Tyrese Gibson is going to have to pay up big time, as he’s been ordered to pay his ex-wife $250,000 and her attorney $400,000 following a child custody hearing.
In August, a judge decided that Tyrese would have to pay $10,000 in child support per month to Samantha Lee Gibson, whom he was married to from 2017 to 2020. The exes share a daughter, Soraya, born in 2018.
Based on the court’s ruling, it was also determined Tyrese owes Samantha over $200,000 in child support dating back to when she first filed for divorce in September 2020. Though they’ve been declared legally single, the former couple is still finalizing their divorce. It’s been determined neither will pay spousal support.
However, Tyrese has vocally disagreed with the judge’s child support ruling since last summer, arguing it was racist, biased, and excessive. Tyrese has argued his ex-wife doesn’t require so much child support because she makes a good income on her own.
Moreover, the actor apparently refused to pay the child support, which is why he landed up in court recently, and now owes even more.
The court found Tyrese in contempt due to his reluctance to pay the child support. While the judge had the power to arrest him, the court rather demanded he pay even more back due support. Specifically, Tyrese now owes Samantha $237,000 in child support. He must also give nearly $400,000 to her attorney for legal fees.
The judge even decided that Tyrese needs to foot a $17,000 bill to hire a special mediator to handle future parenting disputes.
This isn’t the only custody dispute Tyrese has been involved in over the years. The actor was previously married to Norma Gibson from 2007 to 2009, and they also share a daughter, born in 2007.
In 2017, the former couple’s long custody battle came to an end when Tyrese was granted 50/50 of their daughter Shyla. Norma’s request for a permanent restraining order was also denied.
Norma has previously accused Tyrese of abusing their daughter, including an instance in which “pushed our daughter to the ground, pinned her face down, put his knees on her back, grabbed her hands with one arm and beat her with the other,” court documents reveal.
Child protective services (CPS) launched an investigation into Tyrese, but later dismissed it. The actor vehemently denied his ex-wife’s allegations.
