Louis C.K. Reappears at Dave Chappelle's Summer Camp Comedy Show

Publish date: 2024-06-12

On August 4, Louis C.K. reappeared with Dave Chappelle, Michelle Wolf, DJ Trauma and Mo Amer at one of Chappelle's shows in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The comedian, who has been slowly making a comeback after being accused of sexual impropriety by several women three years ago, appeared in an Instagram photo of the event posted by photographer Mathieu Bitton.

Chappelle has been hosting numerous shows called Dave Chappelle & Friends: An Intimate Socially Distanced Affair near his farm. C.K., whose successful career was derailed by allegations of sexual misconduct in 2017, has been performing at clubs and on the road since 2018. He also released a special Sincerely C.K. on his website in April.

Although the comedian has admitted to his inappropriate behavior, which included masturbating in front of women, in November of 2017, he considered that he had always acted with consent from women. He did however recognize that he acted from a position of power. The fallout from the accusations reportedly cost him $35 million in lost income.

Although C.K. has been shunned by many fellow comedians, Chappelle has defended him and criticized his accusers in several comedy specials. "Louis C.K. was a very good friend of mine before he died in that terrible masturbation accident,” Chappelle joked in Netflix's Sticks & Stones. “He didn’t do anything you can call the police for. I dare you to try.”

In January 2020, C.K. performed a set, which received a standing ovation, at the eighth annual benefit show for late comedian Patrice O'Neal, which comedian Bill Burr organizes. In the credits of his recent comedy special, C.K. thanked Chappelle, Chris Rock, Burr, Joe Rogan, and his girlfriend Blanche Gardin, a French actress, comedian and writer. He also dedicated the special to his mother who died in 2019. In addition, he donated $30,000 to employees at the Comedy Cellar in Greenwich Village during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aside from C.K., Chappelle has also hosted David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Tiffany Haddish, Common, Erykah Badu, Michael Che, Jon Hamm, Talib Kweli and Questlove, among others, at his summer comedy shows. According to reports, Chappelle has received the go-ahead from local health officials to stage the shows in his hometown. He enforces safety protocols like temperature checks, socially-distant seating and other measures for all those who attend.
